OK, a lot of you guys are waiting for the New Fourth Edition of PTOOMA’s (Lone Wolf) Complete Glock Reference Guide. Over on my site GlockBooks.com, I have a LONG back order list. You guys have been so patient! Because of my personal attention and relationship with the authors, you guys who order on GlockBooks.com will be the first to get the new book.

The word from the publisher is May 23rd. That’s when the book arrives from the printer to Lone Wolf. GlockBooks will have it in-stock shortly after that and I’ll start shipping to my backorder list first. If you order it now, you’ll get the 3rd-edition price, even if the Fourth Edition is more expensive (as has been hinted to me by the publisher.)

JR told me at SHOT that the new book may not include the old torture test, but it will be fully updated with complete information about the Gen4 Glocks and new models. This will be the most up-to-date source of information available anywhere! Even better than GLOCK itself!

I know that ever since SHOT Show I’ve been saying the book would be in by mid-April, but I can’t do anything until the book leaves the printer! Hang tight, it won’t be long now. I know it will be worth waiting for!

Keep on Glockin!

KC Eusebio Named the Newest Member of Team GLOCK Shooting Squad
The World’s Fastest Shooter Aligns with World’s Most Popular Firearm for 2012 Season

Smyrna, GA (April 25, 2012) – GLOCK, Inc. announced Monday that KC Eusebio has joined GLOCK’s shooting team. The three-time World Speed Shooting Champion and former United States Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) team member will continue his quest for a fourth World Speed title as a member of Team GLOCK.

Eusebio will join fellow teammate and renowned junior female shooter Tori Nonaka on Team GLOCK. Like Nonaka, Eusebio was introduced to shooting by his father and began shooting competitively at the age of 8. Quickly, Eusebio rose to Master class in two short years. By the age of 12 he was, and remains, the youngest competitor in the world to earn the ranking as a Grand Master class shooter. At 15, he became the youngest shooter to win a world championship at the prestigious World Speed Shooting Championships Steel Challenge. One of eight competitors ever to earn the USPSA Open National Title, Eusebio also boasts three Steel National Titles.

Upon high school graduation, Eusebio joined the United States Army and was immediately assigned to the USAMU. Honing his skills during his competitive shooting around the globe, his additional assignments included the training of troops in firearms marksmanship, one of the many mandates of the USAMU.

“Growing up, I remember sitting in my father’s garage, using a GLOCK Armorers’ Mat to clean our guns, while surrounded by GLOCK posters on the walls,” said Eusebio. “I was amazed at how impressive they looked, and now here I am, getting to shoot and work for that same, great company. I truly feel blessed to be honored with this opportunity.”

“We were immediately impressed with KC’s skill and abilities that he has perfected during his short career,” stated GLOCK, Inc. Vice President, Gary Fletcher. “He has an extremely energetic personality. Being an accomplished competitor, an experienced leader and a trainer for the USAMU made him a great fit for our organization.”

In addition to joining the GLOCK shooting team, KC also assumes the day-to-day responsibilities as a GLOCK training instructor.

Finally, this case is over. Right…..

The weird thing is that Robert, son of Gaston, is suddenly standing up supporting Paul Jannuzzo, the turncoat who stole millions of dollars from the company. This GLOCK and Glock soap opera is sickening.

The idea that if Paul Jannuzzo didn’t actually steal a pistol then everything is OK is crazy. Sure, he saved the company several time from almost certain bankruptcy due to liability claims. Sure, his promotional strategies were awesome. Sure he’s a nice guy and was Gaston’s only friend. But that doesn’t give a guy license to embezzle even a nickel let alone come up with a ballsy plan to pocket millions!

I think Robert is trying to find a way to get the company back and get back at his father for loosing his marbles.

Here’s the report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

John Disney Daily ReportPaul Jannuzzo, during his trial Wednesday Feb. 22, 2012 in Cobb Superior Court.

Jannuzzo, 56, also was fined $100,000 and ordered to serve 200 hours of community service upon his release. Jannuzzo has already spent 26 months in jail awaiting trial on the theft and racketeering charges, for which he was indicted in 2009. He will be given credit for time served.

A jury convicted Jannuzzo March 2 of conspiring with another former Glock executive, Dunwoody lawyer Peter Manown, to divert about $5 million from the company between 1991 and 2003 using cloned bank accounts, forged documents and fraudulently obtained loans. Jannuzzo also was convicted of stealing a pistol that had been loaned to him by the company.

Glock Inc., the North American subsidiary of the Austria-based gun manufacturer, is headquartered in Smyrna.

Manown, who reportedly profited the most from the partnership, pleaded guilty to three counts of theft in 2008 and was sentenced to 10 years on probation, with no jail time. In exchange for the plea, Manown agreed to cooperate with the investigation.

Defense attorney John Da Grosa Smith asked the judge to take into account Manown’s comparatively light punishment when he sentenced Jannuzzo. He requested only a fine, community service or time on probation as punishment for his client.

Smith also put Jannuzzo’s four siblings and his 80-year-old mother on the stand to testify about how much his family relies on him.

Jannuzzo’s father died in 2009, and the loss of the family patriarch as well as the eldest son has been devastating for the family, said Jannuzzo’s sister, AnnMarie Jannuzzo Mastria.

“The two of them are gone at the same time and it’s hit everyone really hard,” she testified. “My mom has had two heart attacks and she needs him there.”

Jannuzzo, dressed in a jail uniform and bulletproof vest instead of the suit and tie he wore during the trial, wiped away tears as his sister spoke.

Frank R. Seigel, an attorney who was once retained by Jannuzzo to help with Glock product liability cases, testified Jannuzzo was a “brilliant” lawyer. He said Jannuzzo’s peers held him in high regard while he served as the face of the gun industry in America throughout much of the 1990s.

Jannuzzo, a former New Jersey prosecutor, rose to prominence after he was hired by Glock Inc. to be its general counsel, defending the company against product liability lawsuits and patent infringements. He played a pivotal role in representing Glock not just in court, but before U.S. presidents, Congressional leaders and business tycoons. All that crumbled after his arrest, his lawyers argued.

“This man has been ruined,” Smith told the judge prior to sentencing.

Prosecutor John Butters hinted there were really two Paul Jannuzzos — the affable, loving one his friends and family saw, and the conniving, duplicitous employee that jurors heard evidence about. He pointed out that Manown voluntarily came forward in 2003 to Glock executives, admitted he stole from the company, and paid restitution.

In contrast, Jannuzzo has not accepted responsibility nor shown any remorse, Butters said.

Superior Court Judge LaTain Kell had little sympathy for Jannuzzo.

“You were entrusted basically with keys to the kingdom,” Kell told Jannuzzo. “You were given the opportunity to write checks, form corporations on behalf of the company, and take all manners of action on behalf of the company. By placing that amount of trust in you, they allowed you — much to their detriment — to steal from them.”

This is a strange and intriguing video. It is at once kind of cool in a retro sort of way and extremely ridiculous. It must be because it was produced in-house by a couple of GLOCK corporate geeks. It’s hard to believe that PR execs signed off on this unless they are betting that it’s strangeness will set it to go viral. Which may happen….. (thanks to ENDO for alerting me to this video.)

“Perfection for Professionals?” Like Tom Cruise wannabees in a “Spy Kids” rip-off? And I think most any gun will “withstand all extremities,” if you take “extremities” to refer to arms and legs, as it usually does.

There are fake parts in this video and there are real parts. As far as I can tell, the actor is a real athlete with nerves of steel. He base jumps and lays under a tank, among other feats. But the explosions and using the GLOCK as a hammer are really sad forgeries. Even so, it would have been a thousand times more bitchin if Gunny R. Lee Ermy was the star.

Instead of tarnishing GLOCK’s awesome reputation by releasing bizarre Euro-geek shit like this that makes me feel like GLOCK is about as tuned into its market as I understand flower arrangement and lap dogs, they should hire Freddie Wong to make a really awesome fantasy video like this: (starring Gunny, of course!)

If you’re going to make fake stuff, go all the way Wong-style. GLOCK is a big company. Freddie and Brendon work out of a loft in Los Angeles.

It sounds like the same story that you hear when some poor guy finally wins the lottery. He has a couple of great months before the money runs out and then he’s right back where he started only worse. People are not changed by wealth and fortune. If anything, if they can’t handle it, their dark side seems to surface.

This time it’s the story of an aging, socially awkward genius who makes it big, cuts off ties to his family, alienates life-long friends, indulges his peculiarities, and in the mean time becomes the idol of worship for millions of followers. Steve Jobs? Gaston Glock?

My friend Paul Barrett has his finger on the pulse of the GLOCK empire. Read the latest here on Bloomberg Businessweek.

Last December, Helga Glock, Gaston’s wife of 49 years until they divorced earlier in 2011, filed a civil lawsuit in an Austrian court seeking to regain a significant stake in the family-owned corporate empire, which manufactures handguns used by two-thirds of all American police departments. Helga, 71, alleged that her 15 percent piece of the company was improperly shifted from her by advisers to her 82-year-old ex-husband’s new wife, Kathrin Tschikof, 31.

Translated from Kleine Zeitung:

Gaston Glock will put much of his life’s work in modern medical research. The family is with him in the dispute over money.

Is there a miracle cure for cancer, which can help the whole human race? For a long time, so we know from his closest personal environment in Carinthia, this question deals Gaston Glock. His long years to reach reportedly deep into Central Asia. The 82-year-old, who earned his pistols with a billion-assets will, in his twilight years not only a considerable part of the Glock’s assets put into health research, but to also expand the range of his business empire business significantly. The Glock Health GmbH has existed as an operational base for it.

“Family care”

The headlines around the multi-billionaire, however, are at present very different nature. His family is with him in the dispute over money. To a lot of money. Between Glock and his former wife, Helga is on after the divorce county court division process, which are of financial and legal details still hot spread in tabloids.

The daughter of Gaston Glock and his two sons have left the weapons business empire.According to reports, they have so signed as a testament, the ex-wife – each with large sums in the tens of millions. In sum amounts haunt of approximately 100 million € for ex-wife and children through the media. “My family,” Glock put this in “News” dry clear, “is supplied. Now I turn to something new.” As just for health research.

Foundations and their purpose

The key conflict broke out in the public lies in the numerous foundations Glocks. Already in September, reported the Kleine Zeitung that were next to the Glock and the Private Foundation Private Foundation value the newly established private foundation and the IGG IGVG private foundation. “For legal reasons,” as William Glock’s lawyer Gößeringer explained. The family dispute is about the foundation’s objectives. The proceeds will be used that is now at the will of the founder Glock mainly for science, research and social projects.

From a family dispute, which is also against the backdrop of this year’s marriage of Glocks out to the much younger wife, Kathrin (30), Glock expects to benefit more than the lawyers. From both sides of the argument, it was about the preservation of the life’s work.Gaston Glock considers it “safe for future generations through the foundations.”

Manufacturer continues philanthropic efforts by making four significant donations

Smyrna, GA – GLOCK, Inc. will donate a total of $115,000 to four separate organizations within the National Rifle Association (NRA) during the 2012 NRA Annual Meeting & Exhibits held in St. Louis, MO, Apr. 12 – 15. GLOCK, Inc. Vice Presidents Gary Fletcher, Chad Mathis and Josh Dorsey, alongside spokesman R. Lee Ermey, will make presentations to each group inside the GLOCK, Inc. exhibition booth (#2031) on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 10:00AM.

“There are millions of NRA members and thousands of certified NRA firearms instructors who continue to protect our Second Amendment rights and help to promote firearms safety,” said GLOCK Vice President, Gary Fletcher. “It’s important for us at GLOCK, Inc. to recognize that commitment by supporting the NRA and its affiliate organizations.”

The four organizations that will be receiving donations at NRA include:

National Rifle Association – This is the third consecutive year that GLOCK will make a $50,000 donation to the NRA. The NRA is America’s foremost defender of Second Amendment rights. The organization advocates for the promotion of firearm ownership, as well as marksmanship, firearm safety and the protection of hunting and self-defense in the United States. Ron Schmeits, President of the NRA, Wayne LaPierre, Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of the NRA, and Kayne Robinson, Executive Director of Operations and past President of the NRA have been invited to accept the donation.

NRA Whittington Center – A $50,000 donation will mark the fourth consecutive year that GLOCK has donated to the NRA Whittington Center. The Center is the most comprehensive shooting facility in America today, complete with 15 shooting ranges, classrooms and a dining facility. It hosts recreational shooting and guided hunts as well as camping, hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding activities. Wayne Armacost, Executive Director at NRA Whittington Center has been invited to accept the donation along with Schmeits, LaPierre and Robinson.

NRA Whittington Center’s Adventure Camp – GLOCK will make a $15,000 donation to this group. The Camp is a unique place where young men and women have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of pistol, rifle and shotgun shooting in a positive environment. Invited to accept the donation on behalf of the NRA Whittington Center’s Adventure Camp will be Armacost, Schmeits, LaPierre and Robinson.

NRA Law Enforcement Division (LED) - GLOCK will donate 30 pistols to the LED. This marks the fifth consecutive year that GLOCK has donated to the LED.
My dad was a badass. An old-school badass. He could back it up. He’d seen the freakin’ elephant and he’d taken it out with his bare hands.

He didn’t often talk big, but when he did, you knew you had to take him seriously. One topic he talked big on was what the world has now come to know as the Constitutional Right and Social Obligation to Carry a Gun.

Recently in the news this natural right has been questioned again because of the poor judgement of one George Zimmerman. If my father was alive today, he would have some stern words for the Media, Mr. Zimmerman and America regarding this Zimmerman/Martin fiasco. They would be similar to the admonition he wrote in Chapter 20 of Living with Glocks.

Carrying a loaded gun with the ability and will to use it is not a casual fling meant to bring some excitement into your boring life. It is an all-embracing lifestyle and must take precedence over your respect for law, your fear of social criticism, your love of humanity, your wardrobe and your drinking habits.

You can never be unaware of the weight you carry on your hip or under your arm. You can never forget your responsibilities. You must wear your Glock with the same allegiance as your wedding ring. If you’re not married, your Glock is your wedding ring. Wear it for life. Don’t even think about leaving home without it. Be prepared to use it at a moment’s notice. Carry it all the time. And shoot to kill.

“Liberty or death,” the meaning of which is clear and absolute, is but a trivial phrase if you do not carry a gun. For freedom-loving Americans, the five most important words in the English language are, and always have been - from my cold dead hands.

This Zimmerman/Martin case may be the moment that what my father called “Crime Facilitators” or gun control advocates have been waiting for. Watch out for similar stories popping up. Think about it. Should we prohibit everyone from driving cars because your brother-in-law once got lost? Should we scrap all shoes because a bully in elementary school wrongfully kicked an innocent nerd? These instances suck, but just like guns, cars and shoes save many more lives than they screw up. Technology is dangerous because it is so powerful.

Over the years there have been many who have taken my father’s big talk about the Natural Right to defend oneself with a gun very seriously. Tim Schmidt, who started the United States Concealed Carry Association was directly inspired by my father’s writing. Everywhere, you will find Robert Boatman’s thoughts quoted and discussed. Check out some of these influential examples.

If you read a quote of my father’s (credited or not) in someone’s blog, forum post, sig line or description of how they feel about the Second Amendment, you can bet they “Get it.”

Great news!

Pro-gun Senate champions John Thune (R-SD) and David Vitter (R-LA) have decided to stand their ground on their concealed carry reciprocity legislation, despite pressure from gun rights compromisers to weaken the bill.

Specifically, Senators Thune and Vitter are sticking with their version of the bill, which recognizes the right to carry concealed by residents of “Vermont-style” and “Constitutional Carry” states.

Such states do not require residents to obtain the government’s permission before carrying a firearm for self-protection. There are currently 17 states that have either enacted legislation in the past or have introduced “Constitutional Carry” laws in their legislatures this year.

Current law:

Vermont

Alaska

Arizona

Montana

Wyoming

Considering legislation:

Colorado

Georgia

Iowa

Kentucky

Maine

New Hampshire

Ohio

Oklahoma

Rhode Island

South Carolina

South Dakota (on governor’s desk)

Virginia

More states are being added to the list all the time. The Thune-Vitter legislation will fully recognize gun owners’ rights in these states.

A competing bill, however, pulls the rug out from under “Constitutional Carry.” Sponsored by Senators Mark Begich (D-AK) and Joe Manchin (D-WV), the compromise bill still requires a government permit for reciprocity, regardless of state law.

So while the states are moving in the direction of more freedom, the Begich and Manchin bill would keep even the most pro-gun states tied to a permitting system. Why are they doing this? After all, criminals don’t get in line at the police station to get a permit. It’s the law-abiding gun owners who go through the process of proving their innocence before being “allowed” to carry a firearm.

We have a message for Begich and Manchin: gun ownership is a right, not a privilege.

It is vitally important that your two Senators hear from you right away. Urge them NOT to support the compromise bill, and instead support the pro-gun legislation offered by Senators Thune and Vitter.

ACTION: Contact your Senators. Insist that they cosponsor the strong pro-gun Thune-Vitter reciprocity bill, which protects Constitutional Carry, and urge them not to support the Begich-Manchin compromise.

Click here to send your Senators a pre-written message.

The foreman of a Cobb County Superior Court jury that convicted firearms manufacturer Glock Inc.’s former general counsel and chief operating officer of racketeering and theft last week said the jury believed the state’s star witness—a former Glock executive who said he collaborated with the defendant—because the defense didn’t cross-examine him and did nothing to refute his testimony.Paul F. Jannuzzo, Glock general counsel from 1991-2003, could receive up to 30 years in prison on the convictions, which his attorneys said they will appeal.Jury foreman Hal Mendel, the owner of a custom carpet and designer flooring firm on Buckhead’s Miami Circle, said the jury also took note when the defense didn’t appear to refute a charge that Jannuzzo had used company money for custom cabinets for his home. Jurors, he said, also believed that Jannuzzo’s decision to flee the country shortly before his earlier scheduled trial in 2009 was not the action of an innocent man.

The jury also didn’t buy the defense contention that Jannuzzo tried unsuccessfully to return a $2,500 pistol on loan to him from Glock after he left the company in 2003. Several jurors compared Jannuzzo’s possession of the gun after quitting to keeping a company-issued laptop computer, Mendel said.

Two issues that the defense continually raised during the case—whether the statute of limitations on the thefts had expired and the propriety of prosecutors using Glock-paid lawyers to prepare the state’s case—left the jury unimpressed.

The jury decided that the statute of limitations on the theft of the pistol, which Glock executives said had been on loan to Jannuzzo since 1999, did not begin to run until September 2005 when Glock reported it to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives among a list of guns that were missing from the company’s inventory — not in February 2003 when Jannuzzo quit, as his lawyers argued, Mendel said.

The jury of three men and nine women didn’t accept defense arguments that Cobb County prosecutors had demonstrated a bias against Jannuzzo by relying heavily on an investigation by private attorneys working for Glock, Mendel said. He said that some jurors were familiar with other cases—including the 2005 disappearance and suspected murder in Aruba of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway—where the families of victims hired private attorneys and investigators to pursue a case. “It’s done all the time,” he said.

Though the defense repeatedly questioned the propriety of having private attorneys hired by the victim assist in the prosecution, Mendel said jurors didn’t believe such a practice demonstrated bias by the state. “We truly believe our government wouldn’t do that,” Mendel said.

If anything, Mendel said it appeared that the prosecution team was outnumbered. He said jurors noticed that Glock’s defense team included two attorneys and several assistants in court while Assistant District Attorney John C. Butters sat alone at the prosecutors’ table. Prior to the trial, Cobb County Superior Court Judge C. LaTain Kell Sr. had barred Glock’s Washington counsel, Robert T. Core, from sitting with Butters after his presence was protested by Jannuzzo’s lawyers.

The jury foreman also cited Jannuzzo’s decision to flee the country in 2009. “He left the country right before his trial. We’re sitting there saying, ‘If I’m innocent, I’m running and you have to have the FBI come and get me?’ Are you kidding me? They didn’t do a thing to dispute that. … That did not sit well with anybody,” Mendel said.

Atlanta attorney John Da Grosa Smith, co-counsel for Jannuzzo along with Atlanta attorney Robert Citronberg, said, “The evidence does not support the jury’s verdict.” He declined to elaborate.

Smith also said the defense team believes that the statute of limitations on the charges is a matter of law, not a question of fact for a jury, and that the crimes are “time-barred.”

Smith expressed his continuing concern about the involvement of Glock lawyers in Jannuzzo’s prosecution. “Any fair-minded person would be troubled by the heavy involvement of a private corporation in a criminal prosecution,” he said. “The jurors’ sentiment that if it were problematic the case would not have been before them demonstrates the trust and confidence that citizens have in our judicial system and underscores the importance of why prosecutors should not compromise their judgment and allow the influence by private corporations in the prosecution of criminal cases.”

Smith said the defense also was “troubled by the conduct of the prosecutor in this case. And that conduct persisted right through to end of trial, including a reference in closing to the defense failure to call Bob Core as a witness. … The defendant has no obligation to raise a defense or put on any witness.”

“For me,” Smith added, “It’s just plain misconduct.”

Citronberg, who was ill throughout the trial, could not be reached for comment.

The verdict, handed down Friday, ended a nine-day trial and a five-year investigation that Smyrna police opened in 2007 at the request of executives at Glock’s North American headquarters in Smyrna, more than four years after Jannuzzo left Glock.

Defense lawyers contended the case should have been dismissed before it went to a jury because the statute of limitations on both charges had expired long before the indictment.

The investigation stemmed from a confession that Glock’s former senior vice president, disbarred Dunwoody lawyer Peter S. Manown, made to Glock’s outside counsel in New York and to company founder Gaston Glock in October 2003.

Manown described how he and Jannuzzo had misappropriated or stolen company funds during the previous decade, according to a 283-page transcript of a proffer that Manown made to Cobb prosecutors on Oct. 17, 2007. On Jan. 7, 2008, Manown pleaded guilty to three counts of theft in a binding plea deal, was sentenced to 10 years probation, and surrendered his law license. As part of that deal, Manown recounted his own role as well as what he said was Jannuzzo’s role in skimming millions of dollars from Glock’s corporate accounts. The Jannuzzo jury wasn’t told of his plea.

Five months later, based on Manown’s confession, a Cobb County grand jury charged Jannuzzo with stealing a pistol and racketeering. He was reindicted on June 11, 2009.

The gun charge

Mendel said the jury first tackled the gun charge, which accused Jannuzzo of theft by conversion for failing to return to Glock a La France .45-caliber pistol after he left the company’s employ in 2003. The gun was recovered by Atlanta police in 2007 after they were called to Jannuzzo’s Atlanta condominium to quell a domestic altercation between Jannuzzo and his wife.

Mendel said the jury didn’t accept a defense lawyer’s assertion that Jannuzzo tried to return the gun to the company and was rebuffed. “He was chief counsel. He was a lawyer. He signed guns in and out all the time. He knows right from wrong … and he knew it was wrong. … He had possession of stuff that was not his,” Mendel said.

Jurors who worked for companies that have issued them laptop computers or cell phones were adamant that they would be guilty of theft if they did not return the equipment upon leaving their jobs, Mendel said.

The foreman also said that testimony by a Marietta attorney who was Jannuzzo’s successor as general counsel, and later left the company, “backfired on the defense.” One-time Glock general counsel Kevin T. Connor testified that within weeks of Jannuzzo’s departure from Glock, Jannuzzo called and gave him a list of Glock guns in his possession, including the gun that led to the charge in this case. Jannuzzo “asked that I find out basically what the status of certain guns were, and what Glock paperwork said about who was in possession” of them, Connor testified.

Connor said Jannuzzo gave him the serial numbers of the guns, but didn’t indicate that he wanted to return them because “we didn’t get that far.”

Connor said he was tracking down the paperwork on the guns when he was directed by Gaston Glock’s son, Robert—who was then running the Smyrna firearms plant— “Don’t have any contact with Paul.”

Jannuzzo’s lawyers argued that Jannuzzo’s call was an attempt to return the gun and that the statute of limitations on the theft charge had expired by the time Jannuzzo was indicted. Before closing arguments, Kell denied a defense motion for a directed verdict on the charge, saying the statute of limitations was a question for the jury. Mendel said the jury—which asked for a copy of the law on the statute of limitations early in its deliberations—decided that the statute of limitations did not begin to run until Glock reported the missing gun to the ATF in 2005.

Mendel said that the jury believed that Jannuzzo called Connor “to see what [guns] they were showing he had” so he could decide “which ones to give back.”

Mendel also said that jurors wondered why Jannuzzo didn’t simply ask Connor, “When can I drop these guns at the front door? Can someone come to get them?”

Connor appeared to the jury to be “a very nervous witness who looked extremely afraid of Paul,” Mendel added.

The statute of limitations on the gun charge was critical to Jannuzzo’s prosecution on the racketeering charge. The gun charge was the only one of eight alleged predicate acts that fell within the five-year statute of limitations for the racketeering charge. Defense lawyers argued repeatedly that absent the gun charge, the racketeering charge would fail.

The racketeering charges

Mendel said that in addition to the stolen gun, the jury convicted Jannuzzo of three of the remaining seven crimes contained in the racketeering charge:

• That Jannuzzo misappropriated company money when he directed an Atlanta law firm holding some of Glock’s corporate funds in escrow to pay $16,000 to a cabinet maker for cabinets in his home;

• That he forged signatures on a document associated with a $3.4 million loan from Glock company Consultinvest to a real estate investment group as part of a scheme to skim anticipated profits from a shopping center development deal; and

• That he diverted $177,000 in insurance premiums that Glock companies had paid to an insurance company established by Glock to a fictitious company he controlled in the Cayman Islands.

Manown testified that once the funds were parked in bank accounts in the Caymans, he and Jannuzzo intended to split them, though he testified, “I don’t know whether we ever took it out of that account, to be honest.”

Kell granted a defense objection to Butter’s attempt to admit into evidence Cayman bank records that would have shown who actually got the money, and a defense expert witness testified that there was no evidence to show that Jannuzzo received any of it.

Mendel said the jury saw the diversion of the insurance premiums as clear fraud. “They developed this company and had Glock pay money for insurance they didn’t even get,” he said.

Mendel said the use of Glock funds to pay for cabinets in Jannuzzo’s home—like the gun theft —was an easy call for the jury on a charge he said the defense did nothing to refute.

Mendel said the jury also decided that Jannuzzo was guilty of forging one of two loan documents associated with the shopping center deal. Two of the signators on the loan testified that their signatures had been forged — not on the authentic loan document but on a copy retrieved from Glock files that included different terms.

“In no way do we feel Paul was innocent at all,” Mendel continued.

“We felt he was totally, totally guilty of many things,” although he said that jurors did wonder why, “no one would show all this money Paul Jannuzzo supposedly got. Where did he spent it? … Did he buy a Maserati, a house in Colorado? Did he buy his wife $10,000 worth of jewelry? … Other than the $16,000 worth of cabinets, when he got this money, here’s what he did with it.”

But he said that Butters told the jury in a lengthy private conversation after the verdict, “It’s all in Cayman accounts and we can’t get that information.”

“That,” said Mendel, “is probably why the defense didn’t want to say he [Jannuzzo] didn’t get any money.”
