Magazine base plate removal
I get a few of these questions per month, so I thought I’d make it its own post.
This can be tricky if it’s not clear and it can be impossible if you just start wrestling with it. The directions are clearly illustrated and described in my book: How to Customize Your Glock, availlable at http://www.customizeyourglock.com, but I’ll describe the proceedure here:
First, there is no need to squeeze the sides of your magazine. I thought I had to compress the magazine at first too. Due to the internal design of the mag, however, this will only damage your mag.
1) Hold your mag butt-up with the witness holes facing away from you.
2) Insert your pin punch or Glock tool at least one inch into the floorplate hole. The pin punch will push aside an internal piece of plastic called the magazine insert.
3) Now pull the pin punch toward you. Pushing against the magazine insert, this will start to slide the floor plate off the magazine.
4) WATCH OUT! You are about to release the magazine spring. Put your thumb over the end of your mag or that thing will take your head clean off! Well, maybe not decapitate you, but it sure could take your eyeball across the room.
Good luck and keep on Glockin!
