Magazines are not Disposable
Mr. Boatman. I have a glock 23 and up to now have had no trouble with it. I went to the local pistol range today and had some trouble with my glock 23. First it had 2 miss fires. I checked the cartridge and the fireing pin mark was on the side of the cap not in the center as normal. Second the round before the last would not chamber. Do you have any suggestions to correct these issues…
Respectfully,
Jose
Jose,
I believe the problem you are experiencing with your Glock is magazine-related.
The magazine for any semi-auto is usually the most neglected part of the whole system. It is seldom cleaned, it is dropped in the dirt, the spring is rarely replaced even though it is kept under tension sometimes for months. Yet, the magazine is just as crucial as any other component that we meticulously care for in our semi-autos.
The magazine is like the gas tank in your car. How far can you get without a gas tank? You may have a highly tuned engine, a performance carb with turbo and expensive tires and a custom interior, but without a gas tank, it’s all show and no go.
In my book, How to Customize Your Glock, I describe how to disassemble and reassemble your magazines. I’d replace the springs and update the followers every 10,000 rounds at least.
The way to be sure that your feed issues are due to your magazine is to mark that mag and keep shooting. If the failure occurs only when that mag is on-board, then you’ve solved the mystery.
Remember to keep your Glock clean and dry of oil except for the few spots that require lubrication.
